As soon as I got back from Hungary I heard from my mom that she needed
me to come down where she lives in Costa Rica and help her with a real
estate deal she was working on, a lot she wanted to sell or trade for a
condo or something, so after only about three days back I headed down to
Costa Rica for 5 days....it is a tough job but somebody has to do
it.....lol
Here are some views from the balcony of the condo she wants to buy, and
the beach just down the hill.

After Hungary, I had to go back to Prague to pick up my mando, and then
back to Vienna to fly home. It looked great and played great too, it
really needed some TLC, maybe the CAT scan made it feel better! Levi and
his friend just couldn't stand it, they had to drive from Hungary to
Vienna at 4 in the morning to see the mandolin, since I didn't have it
in Hungary while Ondrej was working on it. Thanks to Levi for all his
help!!

After the festival, my buddy Levi helped me have a little stopover in
Budapest. What a pretty city and lots of good different food and
architecture. Great market on one of the main bridges and also great
views from Castle Hill.

I closed out the show by leading a big jam on Saturday night. Lots of
good pickers there, it was a really fun and laid back festival.

I woke up Saturday morning to the smell of something cooking nearby, and
upon investigating it found this guy cooking real goulash. This was not
your garden variety store bought or restaurant served goulash. Even by
Hungarian standards, this was the real thing. He started by hard
boiling, over and open fire in a huge pot, a lot of vegetables and
paprika paste, which he boiled down to mush, then he added a bunch of
pork bones with meat and fat on them and boiled that even harder, once
that was really cooked down, he added better cuts of pork and took some
or most of the bones out, and then cooked it a few more hours over the
open, smoky fire. Even my guide and good buddy Levi, native Hungarian,
said it was the best goulash he ever had, and was real peasant
goulash....I admit it was wonderful....I have to try to make it soon,
all I need is a 30 gallon cooking pot and about 100 people to feed, any
volunteers?????

So after playing in Telc, I headed down to the festival in Hungary. It
was in a town called Abiliget, and is in a park on a really nice lake, a
really great location. Here are some pics of the site and a jam session
on the first night there, and some Hungarian countryside. Sorry, I cant
remember the feller's name in the pic, but he is the best banjo player
in Hungary.
